A Study on Clients for Children & Adolescents Mental Health Guidance Center in Osan City

Abstract
Objectives£ºThe object of this study is to analyse the clients for children and adolescents mental health guidance center since 1998 and to obtain the available data on promoting the future community mental health services.
Methods£ºAll 397 children and adolescent client who visited mental health center in Osan city from march, 1998 to september, 2000 were selected. The analysis was based on the charts of the clients and informations such as the basic epidemiological data, temperament, chief problems, Diagnosis, visit timing and course, follow up patterns.
Results£ºMale clients were 64.73% and the age of 5 to 8 were 57.44%. 92.44% family were covered by national health insurance. Nuclear family type were 81.61% and 88% of the clients has the mother as the main care giver. 25.69% of the occupations of the parents were engineer or office worker. Behavioral and emotional problems were 63.22% of all referred problems. 44.58% of clinical impressions were ADHD, and 45.34% of all clients were acquainted by the neighbors. 58.94% of the clients were therapeutically engaged in programs placed within the center. 64.24% of the clients showed favorable progress. Most frequent reason for not visiting psychiatrical facility after referred to one is of financial problem which is 41.18%. 48.83% of clients who were not engaged to program placed within the center is of subjective decision. 66.75% of the clients were engaged in interview program. In the 66.75% of the clients, the duration of engagement were within 3 months, and 77.59% of the clients showed good compliance and prognosis.
Conclusion£ºThis data suggest that children and adolescent community mental health center may contribute to the early detection and early solution of the children¡¯s and adolescent¡¯s mental health problems.
